The QEAN Group, founded in 1998, provides market research and strategic consulting services to medical device, life sciences and B2B companies. We help our clients retain existing customers, find new customers, improve their product lines, and launch new products and services. Our clients range in size from Fortune 500 companies to funded start-ups.
Unlike traditional research agencies, we go far beyond cross-tabs, transcripts, tables and graphs, and provide strategic insight and recommendations tailored to your business or organization.
We also partner with marketing and creative agencies, acting as a professional extension of their staffs and providing market research and analysis support to their clients.

Carol H. Borthwick, Founder & President, The QEAN Group
Carol founded the QEAN Group in 1998, and has worked on a broad range of projects for medical device, life sciences, B2B and agency clients. Prior to this, Carol was the managing director of consumer research and strategy at National Demographics & Lifestyles/Polk, one of the largest direct marketing companies in the U.S., serving Fortune 500 companies including Interplak, Bausch & Lomb, Pentax, and Weber-Stephen Products.
Carol also worked in a variety of capacities at General Motors, including senior strategy positions in marketing, sales forecasting and new product development, and managed data collection and reporting for GM's international vehicle database. She served as the marketing chair on the board of directors for the nonprofit Colorado Healthcare Strategy and Management (CHSM). In addition, she founded and raised seed funding for an Internet-based start-up, and also organized and participated in community initiatives. She has BS and MBA degrees from the University of Michigan.
After hours, she can be found spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors with Lucky, our VP of Tail Wags and Kibbles, working in the garden, missing Person of Interest, and cheering on her favorite football teams.

WHAT'S BEHIND THE NAME "QEAN"?
QEAN, pronounced "keen", is an acronym for the phrase "question everything, assume nothing". Its origin goes back to a consulting project to design a new product development process. We asked our client to approach the work with no preconceptions. As it just so happened, we were rebranding our consulting firm around the same time, and we liked QEAN, an unusual name with a symbolic meaning.
